Ridgewood

Residence

WEST LAKE HILLS, TX | 2020

3,200-SF RENOVATION + ADDITION

Ridgewood Residence is the product of architectural design creatively interfacing with jurisdictional requirements.  Almost entirely ground-up construction, the project salvaged a portion of both the existing foundation and existing roof lines—both efforts to avoid City variance processes.  As a result:  new roofs keep old slopes, but extend to their logical intersection, creating a double-height light well over the dining space.  Additional light shafts welcome daylight in the primary bathroom and home office; and floor-to-ceiling glass wraps the living room.  A connection between interior and exterior is expressed through a continuity of materials.  Old Texas Brick, cold-rolled steel, and hand-brushed, charred wood navigate the outer and inner spaces, uniting the house with its surroundings.
